Statement on the '1 Million March 4 Children'

CCHC condemns the ‘1 Million March 4 Children’ taking place in our city today, Wednesday September 20th. We encourage people to safely take part in the counter protest being planned by Community Solidarity Ottawa if they can.

This event is one in a wave of rising homophobia and transphobia. Trans and gender diverse children are already at a higher risk of suicide than other kids because of social stigma. Groups like the ones putting on this march are nurturing that stigma and harming the children they claim to want to protect.

CCHC has served 2SLGBTQIA+ folks as a priority group since the early 2000’s and we are now a leading provider of trans health care in our region. Our work is made harder by lack of investment from our provincial funders, but our staff are passionate about serving queer people. Times are tough but if we all do our part they will get better.

We all owe it to these kids to stand up and say, “We are here with you.”

Protect trans kids.
