CCHC was designated Baby Friendly in 2012 for protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding at the Centre.  This is part of a larger strategy to improve infant and young child nutrition on a global scale.

CCHC recognizes the health benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby. We endeavour to protect, promote and support breastfeeding and always respect the decision of each mother. This policy is based on the Integrated 10 Steps of the WHO/UNICEF Baby-Friendly Initiative (BFI) in Canada.

Ever wonder about what rights you have as a breastfeeding mother?

You have rights as a breastfeeding mother, including the right to breastfeed a child in a public area and to receive services free of discrimination. Examples of public areas include: restaurants and cafés, stores and malls, schools, parks and public transit. No one should prevent you from breastfeeding your child simply because you are in a public area. They should not ask you to “cover up,” disturb you, or ask you to move to another area that is more “discreet.” Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers cannot be discriminated against at work and or by their union, if they have one. To learn more, visit the Ontario Human Rights Commission webpage.
