About the Program

Our low-risk Obstetrics Program at Centretown Community Health Center provides friendly, holistic, and family-centered care throughout the pregnancy and postpartum period.

Additional Details

Congratulations on your pregnancy and thank you for considering our team to support you. Our team provides friendly, holistic, and family-centered care. During your pregnancy, you will receive care from a prenatal nurse, our two family physicians practicing low risk obstetrical care and family medicine residents from the University of Ottawa doing obstetrical training.  If followed by our team, you will be delivering your baby at The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus.

Your obstetrical care at CCHC includes the following services:

During pregnancy:

  • Access to CCHC phone nurse service Monday-Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm by calling 613-233-4697

  • Support from an interdisciplinary team (which can include nursing, community dietician, social support etc.)

  • Routine prenatal medical care

  • Prenatal breastfeeding education

  • Referrals to community supports and services

Visits after birth (for women):

  • Medical appointments with a physician and nurse after hospital discharge and up to 6 weeks post-partum. These visits include appointments for pap tests and contraception.

Visits after birth (for newborns):

  • Medical appointments with a physician and nurse after hospital discharge for the first weeks of life. These visits include infant health assessments, help with infant feeding and parenting support.

**Obstetrical care at CCHC is temporary.  If you do not already have a primary care provider for you or your baby, it is a good idea to start looking before you deliver.  Please visit Health Care Connect Ontario  or talk to our team for support.

Eligibility for Care: As family physicians, we specialize in low risk obstetrics and are able to care for most patients who are referred to us. Reasons you may be referred to other prenatal care providers (such as Obstetricians or Midwives) include:

  • Women who know they require a caesarean section before labour starts

  • Women who are diabetic and taking insulin

  • Women pregnant with twins or triplets

  • Women who wish to give birth in a location other than the hospital (ex: at home or birthing center)

**Please note that clients who live in Quebec are not eligible for our services.
